Pan to conclude six-year tenure marked by significant policy achievements, expanded global influence, and a stronger voice for the asset management industry
WASHINGTON, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Investment Company Institute (ICI) today recognized the leadership and accomplishments of President and CEO Eric J. Pan, who has announced he plans to step down after six years at the helm of the organization.
During his tenure, Pan strengthened ICI’s influence in Washington and around the world, expanded its advocacy on behalf of funds and investors, and delivered significant policy achievements that have helped shape the future of the asset management industry.
“Eric has been a tireless advocate for our industry and the millions of Americans who depend on it to achieve their financial goals,” said Andrew Schlossberg, Chair of ICI’s Board of Governors and President and CEO of Invesco. “His vision and determination have strengthened ICI, elevated our voice in critical policy debates, and positioned the organization for continued success. These accomplishments also reflect the exceptional work of ICI’s leadership team and staff, whose expertise and dedication have delivered meaningful results for investors, policymakers, and our increasingly diverse membership. We are grateful for his many contributions and look forward to celebrating his accomplishments as he concludes his tenure.”
Pan launched a comprehensive strategic repositioning in 2021 that established a multiyear modernization agenda for the organization, expanded ICI’s focus to reflect the evolving asset management industry, and strengthened its policy engagement in Washington and internationally.
His tenure has been marked by significant policy achievements, including ICI’s landmark Reimagining the 1940 Act initiative in 2025, with the Securities and Exchange Commission acting on several of its recommendations as well as other ICI priorities. Pan also spearheaded Help U.S. Retire, the largest grassroots advocacy campaign in ICI’s history, generating more than 25 million media impressions and 11,000 letters to Congress in support of protecting retirement savings incentives. Throughout his tenure, he has led efforts to expand investment opportunities for American households. That has included fighting taxes and other policies that disincentive investing, advocating for investment accounts for all Americans, and pushing for access to new asset classes through regulated funds.
Beyond these initiatives, Pan strengthened ICI’s international engagement, expanded member services, and advanced regulatory and operational reforms designed to promote innovation, investor choice, and more efficient markets.
“It has been a privilege to lead ICI and work alongside an extraordinary team on behalf of an industry that plays such an important role in Americans’ financial futures,” Eric Pan said. “When I joined ICI, I saw an opportunity to build on its strong foundation and position the organization to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving industry and economy. I am proud of what we have accomplished together—from modernizing our advocacy and expanding our global engagement to delivering meaningful policy wins for funds and investors.”
“Being the head of ICI has been a remarkable role for which I am grateful for the opportunity, but I never wanted to make this role the last position of my career. Six years is a long time for a CEO. I am proud of what I have been able to achieve at ICI and believe I am leaving ICI a stronger and more effective advocate for our industry and the investors they serve. I want to now build upon my wonderful experience at ICI and pursue new opportunities while I still can. I remain deeply committed to ICI’s mission and look forward to advancing our priorities and supporting a smooth transition in the months ahead.”
ICI’s Board of Governors has asked Pan to delay his departure and continue to serve as President and CEO until they conduct a search for his successor. Pan has agreed to stay until his successor can be found, with the plan of leaving by June 30, 2027. Throughout the transition, ICI’s experienced leadership team will continue to oversee the organization’s policy advocacy, member engagement, and strategic priorities, ensuring continuity in its work on behalf of the asset management industry and the millions of investors it serves.
